Return To Self: A Meditation For Difficult Days

Written by Alice Rose. Reviewed by Jessica Hobbis.

Alice Rose (Mindset Coach): Alice is a fertility mindset coach who partnered with OVUM to provide access to her guided meditations as a part of OVUM's Early Detection Pregnancy Tests. These meditations are designed to provide emotional support at the point of testing, helping individuals feel grounded and supported regardless of the result.

This guided meditation was created in collaboration with Alice Rose, to offer a moment of grounding and self-compassion for anyone navigating a difficult time or emotions. Some moments feel heavier than others, and often do not follow a calendar. This meditation is here to return to whenever you need it.

Meditation

If you’re listening to this let me first send you the warmth, understanding and compassion you might be looking for. Maybe you didn’t even know you were looking for it.

If you can, this is an invitation to sit with me for a moment and allow yourself to be held.

If you’re in a space where you can do so, close the eyes now or just soften the gaze as you listen to my voice, whatever feels safe and good.

Take a breath in and release.

You might feel alone with what you’re feeling and going through right now, but you are not.

You are seen here. You are supported.

Keeping your breath steady, imagine that the feeling of being seen and supported actually translates to a sense of warmth in your body, which begins to flow through you, like a warm, golden light now.

This warmth and light starts in the centre of your heart, and it slowly, steadily begins to move through you now, from your heart, to the top of your head and all the way down to your toes - and this warm sense of being connected and seen, which feels like light, stays in your heart where it will stay all day.

At any point today you can connect back to this sense of safety, warmth and light - it’s always going to be there, a golden drop of safety and a sense of being held.

Now, find your mantra for the rest of the day, an affirmation or mantra supports your mind to focus on what you want to feel more of.

It can be very simple and something to help guide you back to yourself if you start to spiral, perhaps something like:

“I am safe, I am supported, I am loved” or

“I am allowed to take this day exactly as I want to. This is my day too.”

I am safe, seen and held.

I deserve love, care, attention and support.

Now wiggle your fingers and toes, blink your eyes back open and take a deep, compassionate and empowering breath in, breath out, take care of yourself today and always.

Key Takeaways:

  • Be kind to yourself and remember, you are not alone. Practising self-compassion, even in small moments, can help soften thoughts and reframe moments.

  • It is ok to navigate complex emotions in the ways that feel right for you. There is no one ‘right’ way to move through difficult days; allow yourself to do what’s best for you.

  • Simple practices such as breathwork and mindfulness can bring you back to yourself and ground you. Making time for yourself in this way can be really empowering.
