IWD at OVUM: The Stories That Shape Fertility.
Written by Jessica Hobbis. Reviewed by Samantha Oliver.
Fertility and reproductive health are often seen through a scientific lens of numbers and statistics. At OVUM, our scientific approach is essential in formulating our products, evaluating the research, and helping people make informed decisions about their own bodies.
But we also understand that fertility is so much more than this, impacting everyday aspects of life; including the full spectrum of emotions, lived moments, habits, plans, relationships, workplaces, to name but a few. This is why we chose the slogan, "Where support meet science.” To do exactly that, and become a space where people feel understood and cared for, alongside the reassurance of our scientific integrity.
At OVUM we believe that revolutionising reproductive health requires listening to both people experiencing this and the science, to create progress that truly changes things. So, this International Women’s Day, we are launching two initiatives that are built around this; The Good Eggs, and Stories From The OVUM Community.
The Good Eggs
At OVUM, both science and lived experience sit at the heart of everything we do. While we are deeply committed to evidence-based research and developing high-quality, science-backed products, we also believe that the voices of those actually navigating fertility must actively shape how we grow. The Good Eggs were created to do exactly this.
The Good Eggs is our Community Advisory Board of people who are all on, or have been on a TTC journey, brought together to help guide the future of OVUM. Their experiences, perspectives, and honest feedback, whether positive or challenging, will directly inform just about everything at OVUM.
In short, they will help to ensure that OVUM builds and grows alongside the people it was designed to support. The Good Eggs help keep lived experience at the very forefront of decision-making, not as an afterthought.
We couldn’t be prouder to announce this on IWD, and we are so excited to learn, and grow from this. Our first group of The Good Eggs will be meeting soon and will work closely with the OVUM team over the next year. After their one-year term, a new group will join, allowing us to continue learning from a wide range of perspectives across the fertility community.
Stories From The OVUM Community
We are also launching a new blog series that explores fertility through lived experiences and storytelling. Each person reflects on the following four themes in their own unique way, to share, in their own words, how they navigate fertility.
Biology
The physical reality, grounding each story in lived embodiment.
Belief
This invites reflection on assumptions, cultural narratives, and personal expectations.
Boundaries
The personal decisions people make to protect their wellbeing during fertility journeys.
Belonging
The social and emotional dimension, exploring the role of understanding, support, and community.
We want this series to amplify different stories, reduce stigma behind difficult conversations, and create connections between our community members. Each blog will be followed by a ‘Beyond the Blog’ section, where the individual will detail some of the support systems they have found helpful. The first part of this series will go live next week, and we are so looking forward to hearing more from our amazing community.
Key Takeaways:
-
For OVUM, building a better reproductive health ecosystem means bringing science and lived experience into the same conversations, highlighting where education, support and advice are needed.
-
The Good Eggs exist to ensure that people and support are integrated throughout the entirety of OVUM, from content, to products, to brand, and so much more.
-
Stories From The OVUM Community exists to share the different realities of fertility experiences, Many feel isolated during this time, and we want this series to combat this, and provide connections for our community.
